In Quebec, talking films should talk French

September 24, 1929. In Quebec, talking films should talk in French, says Montreal's Monde Ouvrier, as published in the Toronto Telegram.

What has become of the rights of the French language now that the talking film has come into use?

Some titles are still given in the two languages, as the law demands, but for those people—and there are many—who do not understand the English language, these talking films are practically incomprehensible.

The reply may be made that those who do not understand English have only to keep away from these shows. This seems simple and practical, but that means depriving a great part of our population of this form of entertainment.
Is there anyone enterprising enough to decide that he will give us talking films in French? It is up to those who have fulminated so much against the Americanization of our people by the films. They have the influence and the capital; why are they waiting to do their patriotic duty?
