December 24, 1928. Canada's Christmas gift to Britain is a reduction from three cents to two cents in the postal charge for mailing a letter to any part of the British Empire.
It is "an enduring expression of the devotion of the British people to King George," especially during his lengthy illness, the Canadian Press reports on Christmas Eve.
In a message from Premier Mackenzie King… to King George, the Christmas greetings of the Canadian government and the Canadian people were conveyed to the Sovereign." King George V regained his health, and reigned until his death in 1936.
